Social Skills Training

"To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe."

Social Skills Training

In order to construct new perspectives on forming relationships and building social skills, the youth attend structured classes and groups.  Based on a psycho-educational model, the training stresses the importance of social responsibility and accountability.  The following topics are covered in the social skills training:

  • Anger Management

  • Grief Resolution

  • Communication Skills

  • Understanding and expressing feelings

  • Building self-esteem

  • Stress Management

  • Substance abuse intervention

  • Personal and social responsibility

ROPES COURSE

The ranch maintains its own ropes course, which is an elaborate obstacle designed to challenge youth to meet and overcome self-imposed limitations.  Each element of the course is designed to be physically challenging and to promote trust building, problem solving, risk taking, communications, goal settings, and teamwork.  In a safe and exhilarating environment, youth face their fears while receiving support and encouragement from peers and staff.
