"Life is a chance to grow a soul."

Therapy Components

Individual therapy focuses on sexually specific and related treatment issues. Each young man meets with an individual therapist a minimum of one session per week. The therapist custom designs treatment assignments and monitors progress on a week-by-week basis, updating and modifying the treatment plan as needed.

Group therapy sessions are conducted by a male and female team of psychotherapists and focus specifically on illegal and harmful sexual behavior and relevant themes. The groups are intensive and incorporate innovative therapeutic techniques aimed at facilitating change within a supportive and positive peer environment. Group therapy has been determined by current research to be the most effective means of working with adolescents, and, at the BBR, each youth participates in a minimum of three group therapy sessions a week.

Family therapy focuses on issues specific to each youth’s family and includes the family's response to treatment concerns; family communication and relationship building; boundary clarification; risk management; and relapse prevention. The BBR staff strongly supports family therapy sessions and arranges them as appropriate, given each family's availability and travel issues. Multi-family group therapy in the form of "family forums" are held twice a month and provide families with the opportunity to address treatment issues and foster an atmosphere of hope, support, and change.

Parent education curriculum offers parents educational materials relevant to treatment issues.

Parental consultation with therapists by telephone facilitates parental interest and involvement in a youth's treatment progress.

Psychological evaluations are available as necessary for the assessment of treatment needs.

Psychiatric evaluation for prescribing medication is available on an individual basis.  Regularly scheduled laboratory work and consultation with a psychiatrist are available as required for monitoring medication levels.

Polygraphs may be arranged as a means of assessing honesty in treatment and for expediting the treatment process.

After-care services include group and individual therapy offered through the BBR main office.  Step-down community residential placement is available based on individual needs.  The goal of the after-care services is to develop a support network for each young man in order to ensure a successful transition from the BBR to a new life.
